Annual Physical Examination
Beginner English listening exercise · Doctor Visits
Transcript
[Doctor] Good morning, Sarah. Thanks for coming in for your annual physical. How have you been feeling overall? [Patient] Pretty good, actually. I've been trying to exercise more and eat healthier. [Doctor] That's wonderful to hear. Let's start with your vitals. I'll check your blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature. [Patient] Sure. Is my blood pressure okay? My father has high blood pressure. [Doctor] Your blood pressure is one twenty over eighty, which is perfectly normal. Family history is important though, so we'll keep monitoring it. Let me listen to your heart and lungs. [Patient] Everything sound okay? [Doctor] Heart sounds are strong and regular. Lungs are clear. Now, let's talk about your bloodwork. Your cholesterol is slightly elevated — two twenty total. [Patient] Is that bad? [Doctor] It's borderline. Ideally, we want it below two hundred. The good news is that diet and exercise can usually bring it down. I'd recommend reducing saturated fats and adding more fiber to your diet. [Patient] Should I take medication for it? [Doctor] Not yet. Let's try lifestyle changes for three months and recheck. If it doesn't improve, we can discuss statin therapy. I'm also ordering a complete metabolic panel and a thyroid function test. [Patient] Anything else I should watch for? [Doctor] Make sure you're getting enough sleep — seven to eight hours. And don't forget your flu shot. We have them available today.
