Production Incident Response
Advanced English listening exercise ยท Dev Team Meetings
Transcript
[On-call Engineer] Team, we have a P1 incident. The checkout service is down. Customers can't complete purchases. I've started the incident channel. [Team Lead] When did it start? [On-call Engineer] Alerts fired at fourteen thirty-two. It looks like the service started returning five hundred errors about ten minutes ago. [Backend Dev] Let me check the logs... I'm seeing connection timeouts to the database. The connection pool is exhausted. [Team Lead] Did anything change recently? Any deployments? [Backend Dev] We deployed a new version of the order service at fourteen twenty. That's twelve minutes before the alerts. [Team Lead] That's likely related. Can we roll back? [On-call Engineer] Rolling back now. I'm reverting to the previous version... Deploy complete. Checking health endpoints... [Backend Dev] Connections are recovering. Error rate is dropping. We're back to normal response times. [Team Lead] Good. Let's monitor for the next thirty minutes to make sure it's stable. In the meantime, what was in that deploy? [Backend Dev] It included a new database query for order history. I bet it's a missing index causing full table scans under load. [Team Lead] Let's add that to the post-mortem. Schedule it for tomorrow at ten AM. We need to understand why the load testing didn't catch this. [On-call Engineer] I'll send the all-clear notification to stakeholders and update the status page.
