Rachel: The motion for next week is that artificial intelligence will create more jobs than it destroys. We are arguing in favour. What is our strongest argument? James: Historical precedent. Every major technological revolution, from the printing press to the internet, has ultimately created more employment than it eliminated. Rachel: Good. But the opposition will counter that AI is different because it can replace cognitive work, not just physical labor. James: We can address that by pointing to entirely new industries that did not exist before AI, like prompt engineering, AI ethics consulting, and machine learning operations. Rachel: We also need data. The World Economic Forum estimated that AI will create ninety-seven million new jobs by 2025. James: Let us also prepare a rebuttal for the automation argument. Yes, some jobs will be automated, but human oversight, creativity, and emotional intelligence cannot be replicated.
