Transcript

Professor: The Scientific Revolution of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries fundamentally transformed how humanity understood the natural world. Before this period, most knowledge was based on ancient Greek philosophy and religious doctrine. Student: Who were the key figures during this transformation? Professor: Copernicus challenged the geocentric model by proposing that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Galileo then provided observational evidence using the telescope. Newton later unified physics with his laws of motion and universal gravitation. Student: Was there resistance to these new ideas? Professor: Absolutely. The Catholic Church condemned Galileo for heresy. It took centuries for some of these ideas to gain widespread acceptance. The revolution was not just scientific but also philosophical, encouraging empirical observation over tradition.
