Meeting with an Academic Advisor
Intermediate English listening exercise ยท Campus Life
Transcript
Advisor: Welcome, Chris. I see you are entering your second year. Have you decided on a major yet? Chris: I am torn between computer science and data science. What is the difference in the job market? Advisor: Both fields have excellent prospects. Computer science gives you a broader foundation, while data science is more specialised and focused on analytics and machine learning. Chris: I enjoy programming but I also love working with data. Advisor: You could major in computer science and minor in statistics. That combination is very popular with employers right now. Chris: That sounds great. How many credits do I need per semester? Advisor: You need fifteen credits per semester to graduate on time. I would recommend taking one challenging course and balancing it with lighter electives. Chris: Can I still change my major later? Advisor: You can switch until the end of your second year without losing progress. After that, it might delay your graduation.
